Custom Gaskets

Custom Rubber Gaskets

Develop a gasket around the joint it needs to seal. Share the flange or enclosure drawing, fluid exposure, compression limits and assembly method so material and geometry can be reviewed together.

Define the joint before choosing the gasket

Share the flange or enclosure drawing with the gasket profile. Identify the closed joint, stops and fastening method so thickness, material and assembly can be reviewed together.

Check the dimensional stack-up

For a simple flat-section example, compression is 100 × (t − g) / t, where t is free gasket thickness and g is the closed gap. The following drawing values illustrate the calculation. Set the actual compression limits from the joint and functional evaluation.

Worked geometry example: flat gasket and closed gap
Illustrative input or resultValue
Free thickness t2.00–2.10 mm
Closed gap g1.50–1.60 mm
Smallest calculated compression20.0%, using t = 2.00 mm and g = 1.60 mm
Largest calculated compressionApproximately 28.6%, using t = 2.10 mm and g = 1.50 mm

Compare molded and sheet-cut proposals

For a molded gasket, define ribs, contours, parting line, thickness transitions and finish. For a die-cut or sheet-cut proposal, specify the sheet material, thickness, profile, holes and edge quality. Compare quantities and inspection on the same basis. Confirm the actual finished-part or sheet supply route for the drawing; uncured compound supply is a separate purchasing task.

04 / Custom Gaskets

Define the environment and the assembly test

Include pressure pulses, support and gap changes with temperature and media. Specify actual insulating oil, saltwater or cleaning exposure where relevant. For an outdoor enclosure, agree climate, dust and water tests on the complete assembly. A compound report and an enclosure IP evaluation address different objects.

Separate electrical and sealing requirements

If an EMI gasket is specified, distinguish material resistivity, contact resistance and assembly shielding. Define fixture, frequency, compression and conditions after temperature cycling or other exposure. Confirm the required material and supply option against that specification, with a separate sealing acceptance criterion.

06 / Custom Gaskets

Approve representative samples and order records

Agree the sample state, dimensional inspection, surface reference and assembly result. Link material and samples to their lot records. Confirm packaging, inspection scope and changes before repeat supply.
