01 / Standards
Use the complete specification
Send the full material callout, including suffixes, the specified edition and any customer additions. Keep the drawing revision with the requirement. For ASTM D2000, the complete designation and supplementary requirements form the discussion; a shortened material label leaves questions for the engineering review.

Record material, geometry, test and approval requirements separately so each result can be checked against the right basis.

Define flame-test evidence for the actual material
For a UL 94 flame classification, identify the requested method and classification, compound, specimen form and thickness, conditioning and report. Check that an available report describes the proposed material and test conditions. Material flame results and the assembled product’s approval have their own acceptance requirements.
- Put the requested classification in the project specification.
- Keep the tested material identity and specimen conditions with the result.
- Agree any further part or system evaluation with the customer.

Resolve the purchasing basis before samples
Provide the applicable documents and identify which requirements govern when drawing, material callout and customer documents differ. Agree open points, required reports and the sample approval route before quoting or testing against an assumed limit. Keep the approved specification and subsequent changes linked to the supplied part.
